The Memory Keeper’s Daughter is a dramatic film produced by Lifetime Television based on the novel of the same name by Kim Edwards that tells the story of one man’s decision to fake the death of his infant daughter and the aftermath it has on not only his wife and family but also the nurse who raised his daughter. When his wife Norah (Gretchen Mol) delivers twins during a blizzard in 1964, Dr. David Henry (Dermot Mulroney) discovers the second child, a girl, has Down’s syndrome, a disorder in which children were typically institutionalized at the time. In the hopes of preventing any future heartbreak and devastation, he makes the decision to send her away while telling Norah the girl didn’t survive. Tasked with the drop-off at the institution, Nurse Caroline Gill (Emily Watson) decides against it, ultimately raising Phoebe (Krystal Hope Nausbaum) as her own, fighting for equal rights for her daughter. It seems that instead of preventing heartbreak with Phoebe’s presence, her absence causes a growing rift in the Henrys life as David throws himself into taking photographs and Norah struggles with her depression. This Emmy-nominated film takes a look at how one moment could haunt a family while bless another.moreless
