The Mighty Celt is a drama film about Donal (Tyrone Mckenna), a 14-year-old boy who comes from a broken home. He shares a small house with his single mother Kate (Gillian Anderson). In a desperate attempt to make ends meet, Donal starts to work for Good Joe (Ken Scott), a local dog trainer. Ironically, "Good Joe" never keeps his word. When Good Joe discovers that Donal has a natural good connection with dogs, he promises to give him his favorite greyhound, Mighty Celt, if the canine successfully wins three races consecutively. Even though Donal is reluctant of the offer, things begin to look up once the races begin. As events unfold, O (Robert Carlyle), a man from Kate's past, unexpectedly appears in their lives. In spite of developing a good friendship with Donal, Good Joe is suspicious of him, and Kate would rather he had never showed up in their lives. Dramatic revelations leave Donal learning only too well about life's harsh realities.moreless
