The Miracle of the Bells is a 1948 film directed by Irving Pichel. The film revolves around Polish actress Olga Treskovna (Alida Valli), Hollywood press agent Bill Dunnigan (Fred MacMurray), and resourceful local priest Father Paul (Frank Sinatra). The film opens with Dunnigan escorting Treskovna's body back to her hometown of "Coaltown", Poland, where the actress wished to be buried. The film then reverts to past events, showing Olga working in the nightclub where she was discovered. Dunnigan and film producer Marcus Harris (Lee J. Cobb) help the Polish actress to land a role as Joan of Arc in a motion picture. During filming it is revealed that Olga has a terminal form of tuberculosis, but she continues filming in hope of gaining recognition for her hometown and restoring the community's pride. The Miracle of the Bells switches to the present and reveals that Dunnigan harbored romantic feelings for Olga and for this reason he searches for a way to generate interest in the film so that she will be remembered.moreless
