The Misadventures of Merlin Jones is a 1964 family science-fiction comedy directed by Robert Stevenson. Merlin Jones (Tommy Kirk) might have an unusual first name, but that is not the only thing that is strange about him. The teenager is smart, creative and always ready for unique adventures, and his college campus provides the perfect setting for his inventive side. His best friend, Jennifer (Annette Funicello), is a good sport and always enjoys tagging along. Merlin's reputation as a genius fuels his wish to invent new and amazing creations. First, he focuses on a machine that can read human minds, gaining clairvoyant access to the thoughts of everyone around him. When he loses interest in his mind-reading machine, Merlin invites Jennifer to help him experiment with hypnosis. The only problem is that Merlin and Jennifer are always getting in trouble with the law, including the dour and scheming Judge Holmby (Leon Ames). With all his bright ideas, Merlin still needs a way to outwit the police or at least prove his innocence.moreless
