The Missionary is a 1982 British comedy film that was directed by Richard Loncraine. The film stars Michael Palin (of Monty Python's Flying Circus fame). Palin also wrote and co-produced the film. He plays the Reverend Charles Fortescue. The year is 1905 and Fortescue is coming back to England from Africa after having been there on a ten year long religious mission. He is returning to marry his fiancee Deborah who unfortunately refuses to be touched! He also has a new religious assignment which is to minister to the prostitutes of London. Fortescue hopes Deborah will object to this, but she is so out of it and innocent that she just tells him to do his best and now Fortescue must go through with it! This assignment is being funded by the eccentric Lady Isabel Ames (played by Dame Maggie Smith). However she will only fund it on the condition that Fortescue goes to bed with her...
