Moon in the Gutter is a 1983 dark French film that comes to you by Jean-Jacques Beineix (Diva). The film centers around Gerard (Gerard Depardieu), a dock side worker haunted by the death of his sister who was raped and then committed suicide. Plagued by visions of his sister's death, Gerard habitually visits the alley way where she was raped. He is determined to find the person who raped his sister and sets out to avenge her death. But Gerard already has a list of suspects - his brother Frank, an alcoholic (Dominique Pinon); an indulgent playboy named Newton (Vittorio Mezzogiorno); Newton's sister, Loretta (Natassia Kinski) who competes with a local prostitute named Bella (Victoria Abril) for his love and affection. In this small town of strange people, Gerard won't have to search far and wide for his answer. Be sure to catch Moon in the Gutter the next time you're in the mood for a brooding French film.
