Movie Summary

Director:
Stephen Sommers
Released:
1999
Rating:
PG-13

Evelyn Carnahan, an English librarian and amateur Egyptologist, becomes interested in the lost city of Hamunaptra after receiving a mysterious box and map from her bumbling brother, Jonathan. When Jonathan tells her that he actually stole the box from Rick O'Connell, the two conspire to free him from prison where he is waiting to be hanged. In exchange for his freedom, Rick agrees to take Evelyn and her brother to Hamunaptra. When they arrive, they find another group of explorers interested in the same archaeological excavation. As the two teams vie for control over the dig, they inadvertently unleash an ancient curse. Thousands of years earlier, High Priest Imhotep engaged an illicit affair with Pharaoh Seti I's mistress, Anck-su-Namun. As punishment, Imhotep was buried alive with a swarm of flesh-eating scarabs. Now, with the ancient curse broken and Imhotep on the loose, the two teams must work together or face the consequences.
