1999
Rating:
PG-13
The Muse is a satirical comedy featuring Steven Phillips (Albert Brooks), a talented Hollywood writer who suffers from his inability to sell a film script. Increasingly frustrated and discouraged, Steven's family and friends are of no help, commenting that he is losing his edge. When Jack Warwick (Jeff Bridges), a highly successful movie mogul and friend, suggests hiring a muse, Steven jumps on the idea. Steven engages the services of Sarah (Sharon Stone), and quickly finds that he is doing all the work, including filling her long and expensive list of demands. To stimulate her creativity, Sarah requires a room at a luxury hotel, as well as gourmet food at all hours. The few inspirational ideas that Sarah puts forth are bizarre and ill-conceived. However, Sarah has plenty of ideas and encouragement for Steven's wife, Laura (Andie MacDowell), and eagerly works with Laura to realize her ambition of opening a bakery. As Sarah's behavior gets more quirky and peculiar, it raises questions about her background in this close-knit Hollywood circle.moreless
