The Musketeer is a 2001 action film and love story in which a young man sets out to join the legendary Royal Musketeers, the king's guards, in order to avenge his parents' untimely deaths. The young man, D'Artagnan (Justin Chambers), sets out in pursuit of Cardinal Richelieu (Stephen Rea) and his sidekick, Febre (Tim Roth). It takes him fourteen years of training in sword fighting to prepare for the battle. In order to do expose them, he must rescue and restore the queen of France (Catherine Deneuve). This leads to an encounter between D'Artagnan and the queen's maid, Francesca (Mena Suvari), with whom he immediately falls in love. With his new love at his side, he launches into an encounter with the tyrants who have been abusing France and who are responsible for the deaths of his family members.
