The Naked Jungle is a 1954 adventure thriller that is both exciting man versus nature and man against himself feature directed by Byron Haskin (The War of the Worlds). Leiningen (Charlton Heston, Touch of Evil, The Ten Commandments, Planet of the Apes, Ben-Hur) is a hard edge cocoa plantation owner in South American with an itch. To this end and bereft of any female companionship or experience, Leiningen sends for a mail order bride from New Orleans and is rewarded with crackerjack coquet Joanna (Eleanor Parker). The plantation owner finds himself confronted with the feisty woman of her own mind and the two almost immediately begin to butt heads. They are finally forced to work together however when it is discovered that a voracious army of, well, army ants are cascading their way, devouring any and everything in their path. Originally planning on retreating back to the states, Joanna's moxie to stay and fight endears her to Leiningen and together they stand against the oncoming hordes.moreless
