The New Guy is a 2002 comedy directed by Ed Decter. In the film, Dizzy (DJ Qualls) is a senior in high school who has been branded a nerd since the ninth grade. His senior year is going terribly and is only made worse when he is diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Dizzy begins the legally prescribed medication and quickly gets himself into a great deal of trouble. A misunderstanding while on the medication lands Dizzy in jail with a sympathetic inmate, Luther (Eddie Griffin). Luther gives the nerd a crash course on how to be cool, and Dizzy absorbs all Luther's wisdom. After returning to school, Dizzy decides he needs to wipe the slate clean, but he cannot do that at a high school where everyone knows him. In order to start over, Dizzy manipulates a transfer to a new high school and creates a new identity, Gil Harris. Will a change in scenery better Dizzy/Gil's life, or is a nerd destined to be a nerd forever?moreless
