The Nines, a psychological thriller, was written and directed by John August and released in 2007. The movie is broken into three distinct short films, each of which tells the story of three unlikely companions who are forced to work together when they find their lives connected in inexplicable and frightening ways. Together they must discover what numbers seem to be stalking them and destroying their reality. The first film "The Prisoner" tells the story of Gary (Ryan Reynolds), an actor, Margaret (Melissa McCarthy), a publicist, and Sarah (Hope Davis) their neighbor. The second film "Reality Television" tells the story of Gavin (Ryan Reynolds), a writer, Melissa (Melissa McCarthy), an actress, and Susan (Hope Davis), a television executive. The final film "Knowing" follows Gavin (Ryan Reynolds), a game designer, Mary (Melissa McCarthy), his wife, and Sierra (Hope Davis), a mystery woman. The three short films are tied together to unravel the mystery and terror that surrounds the characters' lives.
