The Ninth Day, or, Der Neunte Tag, is a German movie brought to you by the same creator of the internationally-acclaimed The Tin Drum: Volker Schlondorff. The film centers around a catholic priest, Abbe Kremer (Ulrich Matthes) from Luxembourg, who is apprehended by the Nazis and thrown into Dachau. In a miraculous turn of events, Abbe is released from his confinement, but under one strict condition: he must persuade the Bishop of Luxembourg to ally with Nazi forces. If Abbe does not comply with orders, he will be sentenced to another camp in the East, where they assure him he will die. The Ninth Day follows Abbe through a grueling psychological process. The decision Abbe arrives on at the end of the film makes it all the more worth watching. The Ninth Day also stars August Diehl, Hilmar Thate, Bibiana Beglau and Germain Wagner. This film is one of the best Holocaust films available. Be sure to check it out!
