The Nutcracker is the 1993 film adaptation of the 110 year old Russian ballet of the same name. This version of the film stars Macaulay Culkin as the Nutcracker Prince and Jessica Lynn Cohen as Marie. The vibrant adaptation follows closely to the 1954 stage rendition of the ballet and follows the story of young Marie as she is given a small wooden nutcracker doll by her magician father on the night before Christmas. It is when she falls asleep after a Christmas Eve party that she begins to dream that the toy comes to life in form of the Nutcracker Prince. It is this prince that takes her on a whimsical journey through a dazzling line-up of magical worlds in which she meets all sorts of interesting characters. Upon her journey she must evade the evil Mouse King (Robert Lyon). Through this visually stunning portrayal of a timeless classic, the film is full of beautiful choreographed scenes and a superb narration by Kevin Kline. And to keep things in honor of the century old masterpiece, the score is kept original using the music composed by classicist Tchaikovsky.moreless
