The Omega Man is a science fiction film directed by Boris Sagal based on Richard Matheson's novel, I Am Legend, which focuses on U.S. Army Colonel Robert Neville, M.D. (Charlton Heston) as one of the last survivors on Earth after People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union decimate the world's human population with biological war. Neville was able to survive with an untested vaccine but soon finds himself alone in a fortified apartment against a cult of nocturnal mutants who hope to destroy what remained of the former society, including Neville himself. When he is captured and sentenced to death by "the Family", Neville is saved by a group of survivors, people like Lisa (Rosalind Cash) and Dutch (Paul Koslo) who are infected but have not yet fallen to the plague. Neville and the infected survivors rush to develop a potential cure before the Family manages to successfully destroy the last vestiges of untainted humanity. The Omega Man is the second adaptation of Matheson's novel, after Vincent Price's turn as The Last Man on Earth and before Will Smith's I Am Legend.
