The Only Good Indian is a 2009 historical drama about Native Americans struggling to maintain their cultural identity while they are being forced to assimilate into the White culture. Charlie (Winter Fox Frank) is a Native American teenager who is taken from his family and sent to a boarding school where Native Americans are forced to learn the ways of White culture and society. He escapes and begins to find his way back to his family on the Kickapoo reservation. The school hires Sam Franklin (Wes Studi), a Cherokee bounty hunter, to track the boy down and return him to the school. Though a Native American himself, Franklin believes that his people will only survive over the long term if they assimilate, so he thinks returning Charlie to the school is in everyone's best interest. In the meantime, a brutal sheriff, Henry McCoy (J. Kenneth Cambell), takes it upon himself to track down the boy, believing that Franklin cannot be trusted.moreless
