The Open Road is a 2009 light-hearted drama starring Justin Timberlake, Kate Mara, Jeff Bridges, and Mary Steenburgen. The film was written and directed by American independent filmmaker Michael Meredith. The Open Road centers around Carlton Garrett (Justin Timberlake), a down-to-earth minor league baseball player from Corpus Christi, Texas. He has big shoes to fill - his father, Kyle Garrett (Jeff Bridges), was a major league star in his time. Carlton receives a call from his grandfather one day who tells him his mother is in need of a heart transplant but refuses to go into surgery without seeing her ex-husband, Kyle, first. Carlton's grandfather urges he brings Kyle to his mom. Carlton sets out on a road trip to Columbus, Ohio, where Kyle is currently working. He brings his ex turned friend Lucy (Kate Mara). But Carlton has not seen his dad in over four years, and when they bid adieu it was on rough terms. Will Kyle then join Carlton on his trip to see his mother?
