The Order is a 2001 action thriller starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Rudy Cafmeyer, a good-natured thief who steals architectural artifacts from private collections for personal gain. Rudy becomes tied up in the events of an ancient religious order in Israel. Originally, the Order was created in an attempt to cease the violence between followers of the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian faiths living in that region by celebrating the shared virtues and similarities between the religions. In modern day Israel, however, one fanatical disciple of the Order named Cyrus (Brian Thompson) has misinterpreted the teachings of the Order's founder and hatches a plan in the name of God that will lead to tremendous destruction. Ozzie Cafmeyer, Rudy's lovable father, is captured by Cyrus after Ozzie discovers an ancient manuscript that both clarifies the pacifistic teaching of the Order's founder and reveals the location of an ancient Jewish treasure. Rudy has no choice but to break into the Order's monastery and free his father. The Order is a tense film with a clever plot and memorable characters, featuring an appearance by Charlton Heston as Oscar's friend Professor Walt Finley.moreless
