PG-13

The Organization is a 1971 crime thriller starring Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier. Lieutenant Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier) is a crime-hardened member of the San Francisco Police Department. Tibbs faces rising levels of internal conflict as he finds himself drawn into a revolutionary and not exactly law-abiding group of citizens determined to bring down the titular criminal drug syndicate known as "The Organization." Despite his sworn duty to uphold the legal system, Lieutenant Tibbs begins to understand that justice isn't always served in the hands of the law. He reluctantly agrees to work with the young vigilantes, but only on the condition that his participation is kept secret from other members of the police force. The Organization is the third film in which Poitier plays Lieutenant Tibbs, preceded by the popular In the Heat of the Night (1968) and They Call Me Mister Tibbs (1970). The movie is also notable for being part of the first film franchise to center around a fictional, black character.
