The Other Conquest is the award-winning historical drama written and directed by Salvador Carrasco. The film takes place in the years following the Spanish colonization of the Aztec Empire. After witnessing the brutal slaughter of his people at the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan, Topiltzin (Damian Delgado) must come to terms with the new language, culture, religion and laws imposed on him by his new leaders. In a monastery under the guidance of Friar Diego (Jose Carlos Rodriguez) whom he once attacked, Topiltzin struggles to move forward. Only after an illicit affair with his half-sister, Tecuichpo (Elpidia Carrillo), leaves him desolate does Topiltzin truly embark on his spiritual quest to reconcile his two worlds. When Hernan Cortes (Inaki Aierra) sends a statue of the Virgin Mary to the monastery, Topiltzin accepts the icon as a substitution for his lost past. The film features captivating cinematography and was shot on location over seven years at various archaeological sites around Mexico City.
