The Other Love is a 1947 drama directed by Andr'' De Toth that is based on a short story by German writer Erich Maria Remarque. Karen Duncan (Barbara Stanwyck), a beautiful concert pianist, is seriously ill with tuberculosis, so she is admitted to a sanitarium in Switzerland. Dr. Anthony Stanton (David Niven) treats her in the hospital, warning the outgoing Karen multiple times that she could die if she does not rest. With only one other patient, Celestine (Joan Lorrine), to associate with, Karen quickly becomes bored and starts to feel romantically attracted to Dr. Stanton. When she meets Paul Clermont (Richard Conte), a racecar driver, she quickly forgets about the doctor and falls in love with the new man. Paul invites Karen to meet him in Monte Carlo when she gets better, but Karen decides not to wait. Knowing their fling could lead to her death, Karen throws caution to the wind and heads off to Monte Carlo to see her man once last time.moreless
