The Outside is a 2009 drama written and directed by Ari Davis. Ned Blakey (Michael Graziadei) has had one dream since childhood: he wants to be a professional surfer. His mother, Joanne (Nia Peeples), achieved fame as a surfer during her own youth, so she wholeheartedly encourages her son's dreams. As he grows up, Ned's genuine passion and hard work start to pay off. He overcomes his fear of deep water and hones his talents, catching the attention of local and national surfing professionals. Before very long, Ned is on the same track to success as his mother before him. Along with his friends Travis (Matt Cohen), Indo (Dante Basco) and Scratch (Paul McCarthy-Boyington), Ned feels most at home when he is surfing, although he sometimes lets himself be distracted by his beautiful girlfriend Amber (Lacey Beeman). Although he seems destined for success, a horrible and unexpected accident leaves Ned doubting his future as a surfer.
