The Owl and the Pussycat is a film that comes to you from one of Broadway's most famous producers and directors - Herbert Ross. The movie was adapted from a play with the same title, authored by a man named Bill Manhoff. The movie follows the play very closely, except that the movie excluded an interracial component which was an important element in the play. The Owl and the Pussycat centers around a very unlikely couple. Felix (George Segal) is a serious, and educated man who makes a living as a writer. When he allows Doris (Barbra Streisand) to room with him, his life changes dramatically. Doris is a young, loud, aspiring actress and model who also works part time as a prostitute. Ironically, the couple wind up falling for each other. The movie was released in 1970 and its content was deemed controversial for its time. Barbra Streisand won a nomination for Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her role as Doris. Be sure to check out what all the rave is about!moreless
