The Pallbearer is a 1996 romantic comedy directed by Matt Reeves. In the film, Tom Thompson (David Schwimmer) is an immature 25-year-old man who still lives with his mother and still sleeps in his childhood bedroom. His boring life begins to spin out of control when he is contacted by the mother of an old childhood friend. The mother, Ruth (Barbara Hershey), explains to Tom that her son committed suicide and she wants him to be a pallbearer at the funeral and deliver the eulogy. The only problem is Tom cannot recall this friend. Purely out of guilt, Tom allows himself to be manipulated into being a pallbearer. Amidst all the chaos, Tom begins to have a relationship with Ruth. Tom is not sure why he is letting the woman seduce him and is further confused when an old high school crush, Julie (Gwyneth Paltrow), returns to town. With Julie's arrival, Tom must decide which woman he wants to pursue.
