The Paper is a 1994 ensemble comedy that captures 24 hours in the frenetic and competitive world of a New York tabloid newspaper. A big news story breaks about a double homicide and metro editor Henry Hackett (Michael Keaton) thinks he has an inside scoop for his New York Sun paper. Most news sources are pointing the blame at two young African-Americans, but Henry thinks he can prove the police believe it was actually mob hit. Henry's boss, Alicia Clark (Glenn Close) wants to run with the confirmed story and worry about correcting it in the next edition, but workaholic Henry is determined to get the real story even if it means disappointing his pregnant wife, Martha (Marisa Tomei) again. He also risks the already teetering budget of the paper and a fancy new job offer from a rival publisher. As Henry and his fellow journalist Michael McDougal (Randy Quaid) work their sources, the publisher Bernie White (Robert Duvall) struggles to balance the paper's demands with some devastating personal news. Director Ron Howard captures the chaos, commitment and big egos that keep the newspaper business alive.
