The Parole Officer is a 2001 comedy directed by John Duigan. After bumbling probation officer Simon Garden (Steve Coogan) loses his position in Blackpool due to his inefficiency, he takes a new post in Manchester. Although Simon is determined to be successful this time, his plans are soon foiled when he witnesses a corrupt police officer named Inspector Burton (Stephen Dillane) murder an accountant. When Simon is fleeing from the scene, he accidentally drops his identification at the crime scene. Using the wallet as evidence, Inspector Burton decides to frame Simon for the murder. Simon realizes that he can bring the inspector to justice and save himself if he can obtain the security footage of the crime. Since the tape is locked in a highly guarded vault at a bank, ex-convicts, including George (Om Puri), Jeff (Steven Waddington), Kirsty (Emma Williams), and Colin (Ben Miller), hatch a plot to help Simon retrieve it.
