The Patchwork Girl of Oz, based on a book by author L. Frank Baum and produced by his short-lived Oz Film Manufacturing Company, follows Ojo (Violet MacMillan) and Uncle Nunkie (Frank Moore) on an adventure from Munchkin Land to the Emerald City, where they won't have to go hungry again. Along the way, the duo stops and visits with Dr. Pipt (Raymond Russell) and his wife, Margolotte (Leontine Dranet). Dr. Pipt has been working on a potion to bring inanimate objects to life and demonstrates by bringing a patchwork doll (Patrick Couderc) to life. The doll has trouble adjusting to her limbs and accidently knocks over the Liquid of Petrification and turns Nunkie, Margolotte and Dr. Pipt's soon to be son-in-law Danx (Richard Rosson) to stone. Ojo and the others must search for the ingredients needed to reverse the potion. Along the way they meet The Wizard of Oz (Todd Wright), The Cowardly Lion (Hal Roach), The Scarecrow (Bert Glennon) and Ozma of Oz (Jessie May Walsh). J. Farrell MacDonald directed the 1914 silent film.moreless
