The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway presents the off-kilter comedy of creator Paul Reubens. With Reubens in the titular role of Pee-wee Herman, the show reunites his playhouse pals with John Moody performing as Mailman Mike, Lynne Marie Stewart as Miss Yvonne and Phil LaMarr as Cowboy Curtis. Reubens began his role as Pee-wee Herman in a Los Angeles stage show that soon aired as an HBO special in 1981 entitled "The Pee-wee Herman Show." He went on to collaborate with a then-unknown director, Tim Burton, and released a full-length feature film based on Reuben's wacky world. After a successful five-year run as a Saturday morning children's show on CBS and a long absence from public view, Pee-wee and his pals return to the stage with a decidedly adult tone. Filmed at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City, Reubens updates Pee-wee's hyperkinetic, bow-tied, man-boy comedy with more than a few double entendres and knowing winks to long-time followers familiar with the performer's past.
