The Phantom is an action adventure film that tells the tale of a timeless superhero. Kit Walker (Billy Zane) is the latest in the line of African superheroes known as the Phantom. Sworn to protect the innocent and fight for what is right, the Phantom learns of a threat to freedom in Xander Drax (Treat Williams). Drax is collecting the three magical skulls of Touganda which will furnish him with enough power to take over the world. Walker must travel to New York to fight Drax, where he gains unlikely allies in a newspaper publisher Dave Palmer (Bill Smitorovich) and his niece Diana (Kristy Swanson). Even Drax's conflicted lover Sala (Catherine Zeta Jones) appears to realize that the Phantom is worth helping. Walker and Palmer return to Africa to secure the skulls in a final showdown with Drax's forces. Simon Wincer directs this 1996 film adaptation of one of the earliest superheroes.
