The Pianist is a drama surrounding two sisters who compete for the same lover. The film, made in 1991 and directed by Claude Gagnon, is based on a book by Ann Ireland called A Certain Mr. Takahashi. Jean (Gail Travers) and Colette (Macha Grenon), both in their youth, take piano lessons with a handsome Japanese man named Yoshi (Eiji Okuda) who just so happens to live across the street. After several lessons, both girls fall madly in love with Yoshi and vie for his attention, but nothing develops as the girls are his students. Ten years later, the girls are now in their 20's and reunited at a friend's get together in their hometown. As Jean and Colette reminisce on high school and reflect on the decisions they've made, Yoshi, the talented pianist, is brought up. Sexual tension and sibling rivalry inflame as each girl delves deeper into the past and reveals secrets. The Pianist leaves you thinking about your own life and the personal choices you've made. If you enjoy a thinking-drama, be sure to catch The Pianist.moreless
