The Pink Panther is a classic 1963 crime caper that sparked sequels, remakes and a popular cartoon series based on the bumbling French detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers). The title refers to the largest diamond in the world, which belongs to Princess Dahla (Claudia Cardinale). At a ritzy ski resort, the Princess enjoys a holiday and among the other guests lurk jewelry thieves. Sir Charles Lytton (David Niven) may seem like an elegant British jet setter, but he actually earned his expensive lifestyle as The Phantom (David Niven), the world's most infamous jewel thief. Sir Charles has been enjoying an affair with the lovely, and married, Simone (Capucine), who happens to be married to Inspector Clouseau that has been investigating his crimes. Meanwhile, George Lytton (Robert Wagner), Sir Charles' nephew, wants to steal the diamond and pin the guilt on his uncle. Director Blake Edwards blends the colorful cast with plenty of physical gags in this sophisticated farce.
