The Pit And The Pendulum is a 1961 horror movie based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. After Francis Barnard (John Kerr) learns that his sister Elizabeth (Barbara Steele) has died, he rushes to the gloomy castle of his wealthy brother-in law, Nicholas Medina (Vincent Price). As soon as Francis arrives, Nicholas and his sister Catherine (Luana Anders) tell him that Elizabeth perished due to a strange disease of her blood. However, Francis investigates the matter further and learns from Dr. Leon (Antony Carbone) that Elizabeth died due to a heart attack caused by fright. When Elizabeth's portrait is mysteriously destroyed and strange noises occur in the castle, Nicholas, Francis, and Catherine begin to worry that Elizabeth's vengeful spirit is haunting them. As more mysterious events unfold, Nicholas starts to think that he buried his wife alive by mistake and begins a terrifying descent into madness.
