The Place Promised in Our Early Days, also known as Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no Basho, is a 2004 Japanese animated scientific drama. The film set in 1996 is directed by Makoto Shinkai and is about three middle school students growing up in post-war Japan. Japan is divided in two parts, Hokkaido and Honshu. Hokkaido is ruled by the "union" and has a giant tower in the middle. Honshu is under U.S. Authority. The three friends, Sayuri Sawatari (Yuka Nanri), Hiroki Fujisawa (Hidetaka Yoshioka) and Takuya Shirakawa (Masato Hagiwara) are very curious about the tower. Unfortunately for the friends, Sayuri falls gravely ill and her family is forced to move to Tokyo. The other friends miss their friend dearly, but eventually lose touch with her family and give up on their curiosity. Years later, Hiroki learns some new information about Sayuri. This new information reignites their curiousity and the two friends set out to keep the promise they made years ago.moreless
