The Pleasure of His Company is a comedy from 1961. The movie is about Pogo Poole, played by renowned actor Fred Astaire who won a golden globe for his performance. Pogo is an absent father, a free spirit, who returns home to his ex-wife, Kate (Lilli Palmer) - who is now remarried - for the wedding of their daughter Jessica (Debbie Reynolds). Jessica is engaged to Roger Henderson (Tab Hunter) and Pogo appears to be attempting to break up their relationship. He appears to be making up for lost time by spending as much time as possible with Jessica, trying to win her love, and by trying to show up Roger at every given opportunity. In truth though, Pogo is trying to convince his ex-wife Kate that they should get back together and has booked two tickets for a trip to Europe for after the wedding in the hope that she will accompany him on his trip.
