The Pornographer is a dramatic movie from The Asylum and was written, directed, edited and produced by Doug Atchison who also wrote and directed the critically acclaimed film Akeelah and the Bee. Paul Ryan (Michael DeGood) is a lonely, dateless, bookish paralegal who plugs away at his mundane job in Los Angeles by day and indulges his inner most desires in porn and prostitutes by night. On a whim, this moonlighter decides to shoot amateur porn tapes on his own time and hires prostitutes and out of work actors to star in his film. Paul quickly realizes that his hobby is becoming too expensive for him and seeks outside financing. In order to secure financial backing, he interviews with Spano (Craig Wasson) who offers him, what seems like, a dream come true. Paul is offered a contract with a small pornography distribution company. Paul is quickly met with adversity when he unwillingly tries to convince Kate (Katheryn Cain) a nice, young woman he meets, into one of his roles in his adult film. Paul’s immediate acceptance and rapid fame in the porn world proves too much for him to handle and discovers that his newfound fame and fortune come with a high price. He is met with a series of moral crisis as he comes face to face with his own porn addiction.moreless
