The Prince and the Pauper is the 1937 film adaptation of Mark Twain's novel of the same name. Set in Tudor, England, the film follows the story of Edward (Bobby Mauch) and Tom (Billy Mauch), two boys born on the same day, but under much different circumstances. Edward is the son and heir of King Henry VIII (Montagu Love), while Tom is the son of a criminal, John Canty (Barton MacLane). As children, the two meet and are amazed at how much they resemble each other. As a joke, they decide to switch clothing, but the Captain of the Guard (Alan Hale Sr.) mistakes the prince for the pauper and kicks him out of the palace. The only person that Tom is able to convince that he is the prince is Earl of Hertford (Claude Reins). Everyone else around believes that he has a mental illness. Watch The Prince and the Pauper to find out if Tom is ever able to prove his true identity.moreless
