The Project was written and directed by Ryan Piotrowicz and was his debut as a writer and director. This 2008 documentary/drama was inspired by Piotrowicz's personal experiences while interacting with inner city youth in 2006. The film was produced by Timothy Duff and filmed entirely in New York City. Justin (Michael Stahl-David), Dana (Jamie Procter), who is John's girlfriend (Jamie Procter) and John (Nicholas Weber) are three novice filmmakers intent on documenting the difficulties of inner-city life. In an attempt to capture a dual perspective on their topic, Justin focuses on detailing the experiences of two NYPD officers, Dan Masterson (Matt Servito) and rookie Alex Mora (Sebastian Sozzi). Dana and John seek the perspective of Thomas (Dante Clark), a black youth facing a variety of challenges while living in the inner-city of New York. Unable to remain detached and impartial, Justin, Dana and John become entangled participants in the tumultuous and dangerous world they sought to document.
