The Pyx is a 1973 psychological thriller film based on the 1959 novel of the same name by John Beull, a Canadian author. It was also known as "The Hooker Cult Murders" and "La Lunule". A passing driver witnesses a woman either fall or jump from an apartment building and contacts the police. Once the police arrive on the scene, they soon discover a crucifix and a small metal container known as a pyx near the victim's body. An investigation is started, and the detectives find out that the woman's name was Elizabeth Lucy (Karen Black), a known prostitute and heroin addict. The police begin trying to eliminate the large pool of suspects, but they begin dying off in violent ways and the police discover evidence of an occult rituals. Now, the detectives must try to find and stop a dangerous cult led by a violent man, possibly possessed by Satan himself.
