The Quiet Man (1952) is a classic Irish fable and romantic comedy from director John Ford, who won his fourth Best Director Oscar for it. Sean Thornton, a former Pittsburgh boxing champion, returns to his Irish birthplace of Innisfree, reclaiming the family home. He immediately clashes with his neighbour, the brash, loud-mouthed Will Danaher, but falls deeply in love with Danaher's young sister, Mary Kate. Danaher, of course, opposes the match and their plight seems hopeless until the locals come to their aid with a plan to trick him into agreement. Will love conquer all the obstacles? And will Sean use his pugilistic skills against his future brother-in-law?
