The Rainmaker is a 1956 drama starring four-time Academy Award-winner Katharine Hepburn and Academy Award-winner Burt Lancaster in a story about a young woman in a rural town plagued by drought during the already difficult Great Depression who finds herself caught in a tumultuous romance to a wandering con man. Hepburn lays Lizzie, a a young woman who has grown up during hard times. Lizzie lives with her father and two brothers, who work all day to bring in enough money to survive. Lizzie maintains the house, but her family knows Lizzie needs to marry soon. However, Lizzie is a plain girl and her suitors have thus far not taken much interest in her. Lizzie's life gets turned upside down one day when a handsome stranger rolls into town, promising to bring rain for the low, one-time price of $100. As the town grapples with taking a risk on this outsider's promises, Lizzie begins to fall for the all-American drifter. The Rainmaker is an exciting story full of romance and mystery, featuring two of American cinema's finest actors.moreless
