The Rains Came is a film that stars Lady Edwina Esketh (Myrna Loy), an unhappily married wife of the elderly Lord Albert Esketh (Nigel Bruce), a dumpy businessman. They both travel to Ranchipur, an Indian province, to buy some horses from a top-class Maharaja, Man Singh Bahadur (H.B Warner). It is in this province that all the action takes place. Edwina meets one of her old boyfriends, Tom Ransome (George Brent), who lives a dissolute life in India. Tom's closest friend is Major Rama Safti (Tyrone Power), an Indian aristocrat who has returned from medical training in the U.S. His life is dedicated to practicing medicine on the poor folks of Ranchipur. Edwina falls madly in love with Rama, and she begins to take interest in his work. Sudden heavy rains followed by devastating earthquakes decimate Ranchipur and changes everyone's life. They must now make a choice on the direction their life will take after this unfortunate event.
