The Rains of Ranchipur is the tale of an unhappily married royal couple, Lord Esketh (Michael Rennie) and Lady Edwina Esketh (Lana Turner), who go to India to purchase some horses. While in the town of Ranchipur, Lord Ersketh decides to return to England and pursue a divorce, leaving Edwina to her own devices. Though she is no longer romantically interested in him, Edwina becomes re-acquainted with an old lover, Tom Ransome (Fred MacMurray), who is the town drunk. A handsome Hindu doctor, however, catches her eye. At first, Dr. Safti (Richard Burton) refuses to become involved with Edwina, but eventually her charms seduce him and he falls in love. The two begin a steamy affair. Even Lord Esketh takes a liking to the kindly doctor and understands the love he has for his wife. When a series of natural disasters strike, Dr. Safti becomes overwhelmed by the needs of the accident victims and leaves Edwina alone even though she's very sick. When a flood threatens the town of Ranchipur there seems to be no one who can save Edwina or the town from ruin. Find out what happens next in this dramatic classic from 1955.
