The Ramen Girl, directed by Robert Allan Ackerman, is a 2008 romantic comedy drama a young woman's journey to find herself. Abby (Brittany Murphy) is a lazy elitist American girl living in Tokyo with her boyfriend. Unfortunately for Abby, her boyfriend dumps her shortly after they arrive in Tokyo. Despite the fact that Abby barely speaks Japanese and is totally miserable in Tokyo, she decides to stay where she is and not give up on her boyfriend. In order to make ends meet, Abby gets a job as a grunt at a law firm. After one particularly miserable day, Abby wanders into a ramen shop. The ramen soup lifts Abby's spirits and she attaches herself to the chef, Maezumi (Toshiyuki Nishida). The chef does not appreciate Abby's desperate pleas to teach her how to make ramen. However, when her persistence proves she is not going to go away without getting what she wants, he relents and allows her to help in the kitchen. Will the cook and Abby form a friendship despite their personality conflicts, cultural clashes and language barriers?
