The Raven is a tongue-in-cheek 1963 horror movie from "The King of the Cult Film" Roger Corman that features an early performance from Jack Nicholson and a trio of terror legends: Boris Karloff, Vincent Price and Peter Lorre. Dr. Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price) and Dr. Scarabus (Boris Karloff) are longtime rivals in the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. The depressed Craven mourns his wife, Lenore (Hazel Court), until he receives an unexpected visit from a raven, who claims to have seen Lenore at Scarabus' castle. If Craven will help the bird transform back into his human form, Dr. Adolphus Bedlo (Peter Lorre), they can find Lenore and exact a revenge on their nemesis. Craven agrees and along with his daughter, Estelle (Olive Sturgess), and Bedlo's son, Rexford (Jack Nicholson), they confront Scarbarus. The result is all-out magical warfare with plenty of humor. Loosely based on the Edgar Allen Poe poem, the film was adapted by iconic science fiction novelist Richard Matheson ("I Am Legend").moreless
