The Real Macaw focuses on an ancient talking macaw, Mac. Mac witnesses many events, one involving pirates looting a temple in the Amazon jungle. The movie than fast forwards to a scene in Australia where Sam (Jamie Croft), a teenage boy lives. He spends most of his time with his Grandpa (Jason Robards) who rehabilitates birds and then releases them back into the wild. An accident lands Grandpa in the hospital. Sam's parents discover at this time that Grandpa is in deep debt. They decide to sell his house to help pay off the bills. At this point, Sam discovers that Mac can talk and they hatch a plan to go and dig up the treasure to save the house. Sam and Mac run into many problems during their journey.
