The Red Badge of Courage is a 1951 war movie directed by John Huston and adapted from Stephen Crane's classical novel. In the film, a young man, Henry Fleming (Audie Murphy), enlists in the Union Army during the Civil War. He thinks that he is prepared to fight for his country but finds that he is struck with fear once the bullets start flying. His fear causes him to run away instead of staying to help fight the battle. When he sees that some of his fellow soldier died in the conflict, Henry is embarrassed by his lack of courage. He is determined that if he is in another battle he will be brave and hopefully even be wounded, giving him the "red badge of courage." He gets his chance to show his bravery sooner that he hopes, when he finds his troop in the middle of another battle. Henry still has many of the same fears as he had before but he hopes that he has the courage to stay and fight the war.
