The Revolt of Mother is a short story about life on a family farm in late nineteenth century New England. Adam (Jay O. Sanders) and Sarah (Amy Madigan) are a traditional hard-working farm couple. Sarah never complains, raises the children and tends to the farm animals. Adam is the man of the house and the provider. He loves his family but occupies himself with increasing his livestock and building a new barn. Though he has promised Sarah a new, larger home, he dismisses her humble pleas to get the job done. This period drama focuses on the strained relationship of these two strong-willed people who, somehow, maintain their dignity, respect and love during a conflict of desires. The Revolt of Mother is based on a short story written by Mary Eleanor Freeman in 1890 and provides an authentic glimpse at how husbands and wives related to each other during this bygone time.
