The Ring is the 2002 American adaptation of the popular Asian horror sensation and first big hit from celebrated director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl). When the niece of reporter Rachel (Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive, Funny Games, King Kong) ends up dying in a tragic and mysterious accident, Rachel begins to investigate the bizarre circumstances of her death. Apparently, she and a friend were watching a rouge videocassette that is said to bring death 7 days after viewing it in a strange urban legend. Since her niece did in fact view the tape, but she is skeptical that it is what killed her, she starts to investigate this odd urban legend. Her quest to find out the truth becomes accelerated when she takes the liberty of watching the tape herself ' and the countdown to her supposed 'death' begins. Things take the ultimate turn, when her son watches the tape and she must save him from its clutches.moreless
