The Rocket

Movie Summary

Director:
Charles Biname
Released:
2007
Rating:
PG
The Rocket is an award-winning Canadian film that follows the life of one of the NHL's most renowned historic figures, Maurice Richard (played by Roy Dupius, nominated for Best Leading Actor at the 2007 Genie Awards). The biopic is as accurate as possible, as Richard himself provided many first-hand accounts before his death in 2000. Nicknamed "The Rocket," the film begins with his earliest hockey years where Maurice is a teenager facing adversity and injury. The film takes place during an era where the NHL was still in its youth, and much of the players in the league received little pay. Several players in fact, are out to end his career, and prevent him from breaking the current league record for most goals in a season. Bob Dill (Sean Avery), whose son also provided testimonial for the film, is one such adversary out to kill Rocket Richard. As Richard's career proceeds, he learns to fight back against these threats, and the film reaches its height as the events leading up to the notorious "Richard riots" commence.moreless
