The Romantic Englishwoman is a 1975 comedy thriller directed by Joseph Losey. Elizabeth Fielding (Glenda Jackson) considers herself happy in her marriage, and yet feels discontent and yearns for something more. She decides to go on a vacation to Baden-Baden, spending a little time by herself and reconnecting with her goals in life. Elizabeth worries about her husband, Lewis (Michael Caine). The famous novelist is brilliant, but his vivid imagination can sometimes spell trouble for Elizabeth. She knows that he will jealously imagine all kinds of scenarios while she is gone. As it turns out, Elizabeth does meet a new friend in Baden-Baden. His name is Thomas (Helmut Berger) and he claims that he is a poet. Elizabeth does not think anything of the encounter until she returns home to England and is shocked to answer the door and find Thomas on the Fieldings' doorstep. Lewis suspects the worst, but before long both Elizabeth and her husband are pulled into a web of intrigue and suspense.moreless
